Wight Eagles Ladies have set up an all-Island Quarter Final tie against Shanklin Ladies after they put 3 past City Ladies in the Invitation Cup over the weekend.
The game started brightly with the Eagles keeping possession and pushing the play wide on the left-hand side.
Halfway through the first half Jess Green was fouled and the Eagles set up for a free kick roughly 20 yards from the goal. Millie Tinsley struck the ball sweetly into the top corner to give the Island side the a 1-0 lead at half-time.
In the 2nd half, the Eagles came out strong and looked the more threatening going forward as they tried to capitalise on the 1-0 lead they had earnt.
Abi Joyce and Kira Smith couple of early opportunities again from Abi Joyce along with Kira Smith at goal but the keeper made some great saves and keep city ladies in the game.
As the game progressed, the City ladies had a few chances to equalise but Georgia Dye made some great saves in goal. With around 20 minutes left of the game to play, Smith was played through on goal and made it 2-0.
In the final third of the game, Kira Smith threatened again as she was played through from midfield. Through on goal, Smith added her 8th goal in 8 games.
The final score was 3-0 to the Eagles who now progress into the quarter-final of the cup where they will play Shanklin ladies on the 24th of November at the County Ground.
