Wight Eagles made it into the next round of the Hampshire Cup with a comprehensive away win at City Ladies in Portsmouth over the weekend.
The Eagles started quite flat for the first 20 minutes and struggled to keep possession of the ball, but soon chances to go forward came but the key pass just wasn’t coming off as they entered the final third
17-year-old forward Jess Green was looking in fine form as the game progressed on to the half hour mark the ball was played by in behind the city defence for Jess Green to latch onto a brilliant pass from Millie Tinsley to slot home to give the lead to the island side.
Eagles pushed to add a second, but we caught on the break by City Ladies as they equalised to make it 1-1, within minutes of the kick-off a brilliant bit of build-up play from Emma Webb to push forward with her experience to feed the ball through to Jess Green to add a second as she went round the keeper and fired home to put the Eagles 2-1 up.
With half-time looming and the score at 2-1, Jess Green stepped up to provide an assist for 16-year-old Sophie Lewis whose shot hit the roof of the net to make it 3-1.

The 2nd half started and the Island side come out not looking as sharp as they finished the first half. City ladies had a few attacks saved by Ayisha Keyes as they looked to get back in the game.
The Islanders then started to get a grip of the game, dominating the midfield and keeping possession as they progressed through the lines to again feed the ball through to the in-form Jess Green who completed her First Hat-trick in Senior football. As the Eagles pushed on looking to wrap up the game, Daysi Chapman on the right hand side beat her full back to cross for 17-year old Millie Tinsley to wrap up a brilliant game for the Eagles.
In the last 10 minutes of the game City ladies managed to push forward and grab another goal but it was too little too late and the Eagles held on to the game to progress into the next round of the cup.

Reno Drain Player of the match – Jess Green & Erin Sharp
Manager Dan Verstraeten said,
“We came away off the back of a few defeats and we were missing players from last week. The ladies were confident straight from the start and we’re lucky to have a big squad to select from.
“We had 6 players under the age of 18 which really shows our depth in the squad and also what the future holds for the club.
“I thought the players were brilliant and really showed their class.”
Next Sunday the Island side travel back to city ladies for the league tie and the Island site will be looking for three points to push away from the bottom.
