37-year-old Emma James and 28-year-old Lee Richie have both been fined and ordered to pay compensation after smashing a perspex screen at McDonald’s.
James, of Newport Road in Ventnor and Richie, of Coopers Lane in Wellow, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday each charged with criminal damage – to which they both pleaded guilty.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, said that the defendants had been involved in a disagreement with staff at the fast food takeaway in Newport on 13th June last year. A perspex screen, used as part of McDonald’s COVID measures, was picked up and smashed, with an estimated cost to the company of £200.
A McDonald’s worker sustained cuts to his nose, ear and around his eye but charges of assault could not be brought before the court due to the expiry of time limits.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that James had gone 5 months without offending and was making good progress having ended an abusive relationship. At the time of the incident, she was misusing alcohol and drugs.
Richie’s solicitor said that since the incident he has sought help from social services for anger problems.
Magistrates said that the defendant’s behaviour was unacceptable and fined them £80 each and ordered them both to pay £100 compensation.
Excuses, Excuses, Excuses. I bet the poor judge must get sick to death of hearing the same old b******s day in day out (I know I’m getting bored reading it). FIVE whole months of being a good girl! Wow give her an all-expenses payed holiday for doing us all such a big favour.
Wow, and that is what I call a real “slap on the wrist’. Low life scumbags.
Oscar Vincent said that James had gone 5 months without offending
what kind of drivel is this – most people manage to go decades without “offending” and a significant portion of society, never offend, ever.
excuses made for this deadbeat
37 & 28 years of age. These imbiciles should grow up. Idiots.
Glad they were made to pay.
Mc Idiots.. The staff there have a right to be safe surely? No one wants to go to work and face abuse physical or vebal.
If that was one of my kids working for a living and getting abuse, I’d be livid.
I hope the two of them are barred from all similar establishments.
is 5 months without offending good then? what an absolute waste of space!!!
The only real justice for this type of trash is that they will both amount to nothing, ever.
The ages of them, Oh my God! Utterly embarrassing. What next for them? Kicking off in Graces bakery?
Statement: “A McDonald’s worker sustained cuts to his nose, ear and around his eye but charges of assault could not be brought before the court due to the expiry of time limits.” Would someone in the Legal profession explain this? If its in good time to prosecute, why not in time for the worker to benefit from compensation???
