DRUG DRIVE ARREST AFTER CAR STOPPED AND SEARCHED IN RYDE

Police swooped on a vehicle and detained 2 men in Ryde this afternoon (Friday) – with 1 person arrested and taken into custody.  It was shortly before 15:00 that a Hyundai Getz was stopped by plain clothes and uniformed officers on Quay Road, outside the hovercraft terminal on the Esplanade. 2 males were detained by Police as they conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, with the potential discovery of drugs in mind. However, the search didn’t turn up any illegal substances. The driver of the Hyundai, a 47-year-old man from Ryde, was however arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. He was taken into custody at Newport Police Station for bloods to be taken. He has since been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.
