Firefighters are working alongside paramedics to free the driver of a car that has left the road in the West Wight this evening (Wednesday). Emergency services are currently on scene at Wilmingham Lane between Thorley and Afton – in almost the exact same location as another crash just a couple of weeks ago. 3 fire appliances from Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport are on scene, alongside resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, with crews working to extricate the driver of a Fiat 500. Just 1 vehicle has been involved in the crash, which occurred shortly before 19:50. It has come to a stop in a ditch at the side of the carriageway. Wilmingham Lane is closed in both directions.
UPDATE – 1 person has been successfully freed from the vehicle and is now in the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. They are being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further assessment. The road is expected to reopen following recovery of the Fiat.
In Shanklin, a motorcyclist has been injured following a collision with a car. The incident occurred on Atherley Road at around 19:30 with Police and paramedics responding. The scene has since been cleared.
