A drink driver who travelled from Lake to Ryde whilst under the influence was caught after his own partner called Police, the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court has heard this week.
31-year-old Luke Jake Rose, of Lea Road in Lake, was stopped whilst behind the wheel of his blue Ford Transit van on 4th June this year as he drove to his mother’s house in Oakfield, Ryde.
Magistrates heard on Monday how the self-employed builder had been involved in an argument with his partner and looked to leave the house to calm the situation. As he drove from Lake to Ryde – a distance of around 7 miles – his girlfriend called Police and reported the fact he had been drinking.
Police waited at Reed Street in Oakfield for Rose to arrive. He was pulled over and breathalysed at the roadside with the evidential breath test later recording 59 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit being 35.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that Luke Rose was previously convicted of drink driving in 2018.
Defending, Barry Arnett said his client had attempted to call a number of taxis on the night in question but couldn’t get one, so decided to drive to his mother’s house in Ryde.
Luke Jake Rose was given a 36-month driving ban, fined £220 and ordered to pay costs of £85 with a £34 surcharge. Magistrates said that Rose had no one else to blame but himself and that he acted foolishly.

Good on her. Although she may have done it out of spite, the result was a success. He clearly has been prosecuted before for the same drink driving offence. By the sounds of it he’s now the “Mobile Builder on a Bike” for hire lol. Zero tolerance to ALL drink drivers.
Excellent. Good on her. When I am in charge of the world any drink driver will be deprived on their liberty for a very large number of years, never be allowed to drive again, and be prevented from ever owning a motor vehicle.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Some sayings go out of date and get lost in the annals of time. This one will be quoted for ever and ever and ever.
Should make all drink drivers watch the 3 part series just aired called TIME.
would make a lot of people think twice!
