Dog owners are being urged to remain vigilant after animals were treated by a vet after ingesting suspected poison in Parkhurst Forest earlier this week.
The dogs were taken ill on Tuesday evening after eating a substance believed to have been left in the area, although it is not known when the material was originally placed.
The owners returned to the forest today (Wednesday) to remove as much of the suspected poison as possible and have since put up warning signs to alert others.
Island Echo understands that Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has been informed.
Dog walkers are being advised to keep pets under close control and remain cautious while in the area.
A similar incident occurred back in February 2023 when 1 dog died and another suffered a seizure.
It was in November 2020 that Police launched an investigation after rat poison was located around the Marks Corner area of Parkhurst Forest, causing immense pain and suffering to animals.
UPDATE ON THURSDAY – Police have asked anyone who has any information they believe to be relevant to this investigation, to call 101 and using the reference 44260130015.

Agree there are some evil people out there, no doubt. But CCTV isn’t some magic fix, this is a forest, not a town centre. You could put cameras up and still miss it completely.
Seems to be a regular occurrence at this location
so incognito cameras in trees might help catch
the culprits.
Also might be a good idea employing forest wardens.
Animals don’t deserve such treatment.
We asked if our street in the town centre could get CCTV due to the high number of attacks on properties there. Police told us they don’t have the staff to go thru CCTV. Cameras may act as a deterrent but it was too expensive to install them. In other words you’re on your own mate
What’s even more annoying is when you read the comments on the islands fb pages it seems some people are in the know of who this parkhurst poisoner is but won’t name and shame, I say let’s start the witch hunt and get the pitchforks and torches ready
