A staple of Ryde High Street – Diamond Pet Supplies – has announced that it is closing. The pet shop, which has served the local community, for nearly 40 years will close for the final time this Easter. Over the weekend, a sign appeared on the frontage of the premises in which current owners John and Debbie said that it was time to call it a day as they look to retire. The notice reads:
“With a heavy heavy heart that we have decided to call it a day and close the shop this Easter. “We would like to sincerely thank all our loyal customers many of whom have become friends over the years.”
Before moving to its current home, the store was located on the other side of the High Street. The news means that come April, 2 premises in the heart of Ryde Town Centre will both be empty following the news that Mountain Warehouse – located next door to Diamond Pet Supplies – is to close at the end of the month too.

More flats soon then I expect for undesirables to hang around in door ways in, dealing on phones, whilst our taxes fund their rent, c.tax, and scattered offspring which we also fund in various flats and houses along with the ‘muvers’ all kept sprayed orange, with fake nails and lashes stuck on a phone all day to countless others all ‘living’ on our taxes the same.
Great, just what the Island doesn’t want.
Sounds like you’ve been buying what they are selling
Me thinks you doth protest too much. Likely too close to home?
And we need to tax those with huge assumptions meters and a pavement tax for large a..,. s.. Ringing any bells?
I would like to see all pet shops close and it made illegal to remove a creature from its natural habitat, preventing it from living its life in the way nature intended. What right do humans have to imprison another lifeform in a box, cage or other enclosure just because it looks different and communicates differently to humans for no other reason than their own emotional pleasure. The creature suffers in a tiny box/cage whilst its fellow creatures are free and happy in their natural habitats
Those sort of pet shops died out years ago
really – so why are the current shops providing the equipment, feed and other accessories needed to continue the trade in imprisoning creatures in peoples homes, garages and back yards.
All those voting down Jay’s post – should be forcibly removed from their homes and families, taken to another country or city and put in a box, fed through bars and simply kept there until dead. Just like so many house pets are currently suffering.
Two other small shops in that part of the high street were recently vacated. And that area is inundated with charity shops. Desperate stuff. Thought Ryde was getting a big lump of money as well.
Oh great. Another hairdresser’s with lechy front men or a new nail bar! Maybe another charity shop or bookies mmm lovely! This beautiful Isle of Wight!
It’ll be as ugly as Newport soon
