DERELICT BUILDING FIRE IN SANDOWN


20130319-105148.jpgUPDATED: Firefighters are this morning tackling a derelict building fire in Sandown.

Crews from Sandown, Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde were called to the scene at Melville Street by Hampshire Constabulary at 09:50.

The incident command unit is also in attendance.

It is currently unknown if anyone is inside the building.

UPDATED @10:45 – Fire crews have now left the scene of a small fire at a derelict building on the corner of Melville street and The Broadway.

It is understood that two school children, both wearing their uniform, are responsible for the incident and were tracked by the Police Dog Support Unit and have since been detained.

Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that two youths are assisting them with their inquiries.
