Residents, families and staff at Vecta House Care Home in Newport recently came together for a joyful afternoon of music and dancing at the home’s first-ever Dementia Disco, creating unforgettable memories in a vibrant, party-themed setting.
The care home was transformed into a colourful celebration space, with disco decorations, glowing lights and upbeat music setting the tone for an inclusive and energetic event. Leading the afternoon’s entertainment was Miss.DJ Ann (Ann Abe), who brought a full DJ set-up including decks and lighting. Residents were invited to request their favourite songs, which kept the dancefloor buzzing throughout.
Many residents embraced the theme by dressing up in disco-inspired outfits and waving glow sticks as they danced alongside friends, relatives and staff. For others, a quiet drink of beer or wine offered a chance to relax and soak in the cheerful atmosphere.
Tanya Everson, Lifestyle Leader at Vecta House, has said:
“This event was truly more than just a disco; it was a powerful demonstration of how music and social interaction can profoundly impact the well-being of individuals living with dementia.
“The laughter and smiles we witnessed were priceless, and the connections forged and strengthened were deeply moving. It was an unforgettable afternoon for everyone involved.”
