Plans to install double yellow lines around Newport, Carisbrooke and Gunville have been deferred, which in turn has pushed back other decisions too. Nearly 60 schemes were set to be approved by the Isle of Wight Council’s cabinet last week. However, further consideration is needed for a few of the proposals so the decision on all of them has been delayed. Confirming the action, Councillor Phil Jordan, council leader and cabinet member for highways and transport, said 4 or 5 schemes require work — either correcting the traffic regulation order or making additions to the parking restrictions. Some of the schemes included parking restrictions during the week for Carisbrooke Road and adding double yellows to parts of Watergate Road. Due to the delay in determining the traffic orders for Newport, Carisbrooke and Gunville, other proposals around the Island have also been pushed back. The district traffic regulation order review proposed for Sandown, Lake, Shanklin, Alverstone, Arreton and Newchurch was supposed to be determined in February but has been moved back to May so more public consultation can take place. In Brighstone, Freshwater, Rookley, Shalfleet, Shorwell, Toland and Yarmouth consultation was supposed to start shortly and a decision due in March but it will now be determined in June.
