UPDATED: Police and ambulance crews are attending a road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a car on The Downs this evening (Thursday).
The incident, at the turning for Brading Downs Road, has resulted in the injured rider coming to rest in the centre of the road.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene alongside Police.
Traffic is extremely heavy in the area and therefore motorists are advised to divert via Arreton (for Sandown) or Wootton (for Ryde).
Paramedics are also currently attending a separate incident on the other side of Newchurch. A male has sustained injuries at the side of the road, resulting in an ambulance and 2 rapid response paramedics attending the scene.
UPDATE @ 17:20 – The male cyclist is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.
He is not thought to have sustained any life-threatening injuries but is being treated for a suspected head injury.
The scene is expected to be cleared shortly.
