A man who brandished a Stanley knife outside a pub in East Cowes last December will appear before Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing next month.
Leo Woodford, 29, of Gunville Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to 1 count of possession of a bladed article when he appeared in front of Magistrates at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that on 1st December 2021 Woodford and some friends were drinking at the Victoria Tavern in East Cowes. The landlord of the public house caught 1 of Woodford’s friends with drugs at the premises, asking him immediately to leave. Woodford and the other members of the group joined said individual outside the premises shortly after.
After this, rumours of an incident occurring outside the pub were heard with Woodford said to be brandishing and waving around a Stanley knife that he had got out from his work bag.
Once again the owner of the pub confronted the group before, saying to those inside the premises that they should remain inside. Police were called and Woodford dropped the knife, as previously reported by Island Echo.
After fleeing the scene a Police dog was used to locate the 29-year-old who was found in a nearby alleyway on Kings Road and arrested.
Defending Woodford, Oscar Vincent said that his client was suffering from many internal factors at the time of the incident including a custody battle for his 2 children.
Woodford has previous convictions with the most recent for theft of cash and 2 counts of going equipped in August of this year.
Magistrates deemed their sentencing powers insufficient to resolve the case so Woodford will appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 17th November.
