It was a successful Saturday for Isle of Wight cricket teams with victories for 4 of the 5 men’s teams playing in the mainland leagues.
Ventnor ended a run of 3 successive defeats in Southern Premier Division 1 by narrowly beating New Milton by 2 wickets in a low-scoring game at Steephill on Saturday (9th July).
Ventnor restricted New Milton to just 131 all out in 41.5 overs. Sri Lankan professional Dineth Thimodya was the pick of the Ventnor bowlers with 3/6 in 4.5 overs. Ollie Morgan also picked up 3 wickets, ending with figures of 3/24. Zach Wells (2/27) and Hugh Calloway (2/27) managed a brace of wickets apiece.
Ventnor struggled to surpass the New Milton total in the 30th over after losing 8 wickets. Captain Ben Woodhouse top-scored for the Island side with a knock of 41.

Ventnor 2nds have risen to 2nd place in Hampshire Division 4 (South) after comprehensively beating Curdridge by 9 wickets.
Curdridge were skittled out for just 94 runs in the 38th over. Morgan Flood (3/9) finished with the best bowling figures for the Ventnor attack, followed by Toby Noyes (3/13).
In reply, Ventnor took just 10.5 overs to surpass the Curdridge total with opener Sam Guerin top-scoring with 65.

Victory leaves Ventnor 2nds in 2nd place in the Division 4 (South) table with 193 points from 10 games, 35 points behind leaders Bedhampton Mariners.
In Hampshire Division 1, Ryde picked up only their 2nd victory of the season to date by beating Alton by 2 wickets at Harding Shute.
Batting 1st, Alton reached a total of 259 in their 50 overs with opener Ryan Hale top-scoring with 62. 3 Ryde bowlers picked up a brace of wickets: Andy Day (2/21), Andrew Woodford (2/40), and Sam Rockley (2/65).
Ryde took 42.5 overs to surpass the Alton total. Ben Barker top-scored with 88 and captain Sam Rockley made 49.

Ryde’s victory leaves them 2nd-from-bottom in the Division 1 table with 108 points from 10 games.
Ryde 2nds travelled across the Solent to beat Portsmouth and Southsea 3rds by 31 runs.
Ryde reached a total of 247 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 45 overs. Captain Tom Roscoe top-scored with 68; Ashley Goldsmith was 2nd top scorer with a knock of 59.
Portsmouth and Southsea managed a total of 216 before being all out in the 37th over, with captain George Wilson top-scoring with 68 runs before being clean bowled by Liam Ringer. 4 Ryde bowlers picked up a brace of wickets: Liam Ringer (2/28), James Williams (2/36), Mark Tuckwell (2/46), and Nathan Day (2/52).

Ryde’s win leaves them 8th place in Division 4 (South) with 159 points from 10 games.
Shanklin & Godshill lost by over 200 runs, playing away at Calmore Sports.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Calmore Sports 2nds reached the formidable total of 335 runs in their 45 overs with captain Matt Taylor scoring an incredible 163 not out.
In reply, Shanklin were skittled out for just 134 in the 38th over.
