Firefighters are tackling a small flat fire in the middle of Newport town centre this afternoon (Wednesday).
2 appliances from Newport are on scene at St James’ Street, where smoke has been seen issuing from a second floor window above Stotesbury’s fish and chip shop.
The incident began just before 12:55.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the property.
The road is currently blocked with motorists having to divert locally.
UDPATE @ 13:27 – It has been confirmed that a tumble drier is at fault.
The situation has been successfully resolved, with the fire now out.
