A Ryde man who crashed his Mercedes through a fence and left the scene has pleaded guilty to criminal damage.
Jacob Grimaldi, 28, of Upton Road in Ryde, was fined £238 when he appeared before Magistrates on Friday.
The court heard from the Crown prosecutor that PC Taylor had spotted a vehicle parked opposite The Garlic Farm in Newchurch on 24th June this year. The vehicle then disappeared out of sight and was found around 5 minutes later on Rowlands Lane.
The car had been crashed into a fence and the occupants had left the scene.
Grimaldi, a part-time chef with a previous conviction for drug driving in 2018, went on to attend the Police station at a later date and explained he had panicked.
He pleaded guilty to the offence of criminal damage and was fined £238, as well as being ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34. No compensation order was made as the owner of the fence is unknown.

So lesson is when you’re a drugged and or drunk driver and you crash do a runner then fess up later for a lessor fine.
“a previous conviction for drug driving”
He was stoned.
“He went to the police station at a later date because he panicked”, my backside. “Previous conviction for drug driving”….. doesn’t take a law degree to work that one out does it !
So the crime was he deliberately crashed his car into the fence causing damage?
Well I guess they got him for something, although the other occupants didn’t get done for not reporting the crime.
What an idiot?? Again luckily no one was injured or killed? Make him now pay for damages to the fence??
Very creative by CPS to bring a charge of criminal damage. Never heard that before as a result of a car accident. +1 point. -1 point for not being able to identify the fence owner.
