UPDATED: Park Road in Wootton has been closed by Island Roads tonight (Monday) following a road traffic collision in icy conditions.
Emergency services were mobilised to the scene between Briddlesford Road and Lushington Hill at around 22:00 ahead of Island Roads being called in to hard close the road at 22:45.
Whilst Police and ambulance crews deal with those involved in the incident, gritters are preparing to treat the road surface.
Motorists are currently being diverted locally.
Police have also dealt with a minor crash on the Briddlesford Road roundabout itself. A car has been left abandoned at the side of the road with Police tape wrapped around. The occupants are thought to have escaped any serious injury.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that 2 vehicles – a Mazda MX5 and a Peugeot – have been involved in the crash on Park Road, which remains closed in both directions.
3 occupants have been taken to hospital, 2 being freed from their vehicle by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Police are awaiting further updates on the condition of the casualties from doctors at St Mary’s Hospital.
Once the scene has been cleared, the road will be treated by Island Roads and eventually re-opened.
UPDATE TUESDAY @ 11:30 – Park Road remains closed in both directions due to emergency repair works by Southern Gas Networks.
