CRASH DETECTION SYSTEM RAISES ALARM AS BMW FLIPS ONTO ROOF

An automated crash detection system alerted Police to an overturned car on a country lane on the outskirts of Ryde this evening (Tuesday). At just before 19:00, BMW alerted the Force Control Room at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary to the detection of a crash on Rowlands Lane, between Ryde and Newchurch. Officers were immediately deployed to the area where a grey BMW 530E M Sport was located upside down in a field, having left the carriageway. It’s thought the car was travelling towards The Downs when the single vehicle collision occurred. The car left the road on a long right hand bend, digging into the outside verge and flipping onto its roof. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service also responded to the scene and treated the vehicle’s 2 occupants for minor injuries. The road has since fully reopened. It is at least the 4th notable crash on the Island’s roads today alone, with 2 road traffic collisions in Shanklin and another in Wootton reported by Island Echo.
