UPDATED: Police and ambulance crews are attending a road traffic collision on the main Newport to Cowes road this morning (Sunday).
A van has come to rest in a hedge at the side of the carriageway in the incident, which has taken place near to Chawton Lane and has resulted in the road being closed in both directions.
Island Echo understands a second vehicle has also been involved in the collision, which occurred at just before 10:25.
Southern Vectis Route 1 buses are diverting via Noke Common and Pallance Road in both directions.
UPDATE @ 10:52 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are now in attendance with appliances from Cowes and Newport, including the Rescue Tender.
It is understood the female occupant of a silver Vauxhall is medically trapped inside the vehicle, which has suffered rear-end damage.
UPDATE @ 12:13 – The road has now re-opened to traffic following recovery of the vehicles.
Southern Vectis have resumed a normal service.
