A van has clipped a tree and rolled onto its side forcing the closure of a busy rural road on the outskirts of Newport this morning (Tuesday).
Emergency services are currently on scene at Blacklands Lane, which runs between Briddlesford Road and Staplers Road.
It’s here that a white Ford Transit Connect has come to a rest on its side, partially blocking the carriageway.
2 fire appliances and a rescue tender from Newport initially responded to the incident at around 07:30, alongside an ambulance, critical care paramedic, operational commander and Police.
Thankfully, no serious injuries have been sustained but paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have checked over the male driver, who has since been taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
Recovery of the vehicle is underway with the road expected to be reopened shortly.

You are all being unkind. It was very kind of the driver to park that way to avoid blocking the narrow road
before all of you start coming up with silly little theories of what you think happened maybe think about the fact that he does see the comments. he’s a 19 year old boy who was just driving to work and a tree was sticking out into the road. it was dark and had low visibility. he barely tapped the tree but due to the weight in the back of his van it was completely out of his control. you would all be saying differently if you personally knew him.
