A crash involving at least 2 vehicles at St Mary’s Junction in Newport has resulted in the closure of the southbound carriageway of Medina Way this morning (Monday). The incident has occurred on the crossroads junction at the top of the dual carriageway and has seen a car and van sustain significant front-end damage. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has 2 ambulance crews, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander on scene. The service was alerted to the collision at just before 08:25. Access to the southbound carriageway is currently blocked as emergency services tend to those involved. Traffic is heavy in the area and building in all directions.
UPDATE @ 09:23 – A total of 3 casualties – 2 adults and a child – have been transferred into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, it is understood. 1 fire appliance from Newport has attended the scene in the interests of safety, but no persons have required extrication. Police are now in attendance with officers directing motorists. All roads are now open but traffic remains heavy in the area. Recovery of the vehicles involved – a Ford Focus and a Hyundai i800 – is underway.
