The death of a woman in Cowes, which was initially treated as unexplained and prompted a Police appeal for information, has been ruled accidental by the Isle of Wight’s Coroner.
A Section 9C inquest – held in writing behind closed doors – has detailed that 79-year-old retired teacher Janette Susan Stroud was found dead at her home on Seaview Road at around 14:30 on the afternoon of 24th March 2023.
Officers and detectives from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary attended the property and spent some time investigating the circumstances of the unexplained death, later confirming that the death was not being treated as suspicious.
An appeal for information from the public was launched as part of the force’s initial enquiries.
Now, 2-and-a-half years on, Senior Coroner Caroline Sarah Sumeray has recorded that Mrs Stroud sustained a traumatic head injury after falling down the stairs at her home.
The Coroner recorded a conclusion of accident, finding that there was no third-party involvement.
Mrs Stroud was born in Cowes and is buried at Northwood Cemetery.
