A living memorial has been planted at St Mary’s Hospital to remember those who died during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Family and friends of patients who died at St Mary’s Hospital in Newport gathered today (Thursday), to witness the unveiling of an apple tree and plaque to remember them.
From the start of the pandemic in March 2020 to the step down of the national COVID-19 response at the end of June this year, 391 COVID-19 deaths were reported at the hospital.
Lead Chaplain at the IW NHS Trust, the Rev Dozie Moneme said the planting of the tree creates a symbol of hope in times of challenges and trouble and it represents the strength, resilience and commitment of family, friends, community and the health services.
Reflecting on the pandemic, Trish Reeves, sister of Wellow Ward, said the unit, which provides specialist end-of-life care to patients in their last days — was only six weeks old when the hospital entered the first lockdown.
Due to the increasing demand for end-of-life care, the unit went from 3 to 30 beds overnight. While delivering a training session, she said, she could feel the fear amongst them as they knew they would be facing COVID-19 head-on, without knowing if the PPE would be enough.
Despite this, there was a quiet resolve to pull together and do the best they could in caring for their patients.

“What will stay with me is our dedication as a profession to put our patients first and commitment to reduce suffering no matter what. I saw such humanity, kindness and compassion during that time.”
Medical director at the IW NHS Trust, Steve Parker, said of the COVID-19 deaths 20 were solely due to the virus, the others were a contributing factor.
The average age of those who died was just under 80 years old, with the youngest patient being 36 and the oldest 102.
Mr Parker said during the same 40-month time frame there were 2,570 deaths at the hospital in total, for any cause.
Never again should familes be denied the right to visit their loved ones in Hospital
We have now seen with all the parties politicians attended and Barbeques
it was never a risk.
May all the persons who sadly died be remembered forever.
I will never forget what happened during these time.
This is what happens when you have a pretend democracy. Also did not help that you had science deniers running around spreading it. Everyone bar the government had a better plan. The government took all the bad parts of both options and use that. They could not have fucked up it more. Could have been a lot worse but the jab is what got it under control.
Did it actually ever exist, let’s not forget they have told us lies from day 1.

not even 1% directly due to covid – and we had to put up with all that drivel from the government, nhs and every other tin pot covid dictator.
not to mention all those who dutifully took that symptom suppression jab, AKA a vaccine, which is wasn’t and isn’t.
gambling with their futures – no long term safety data available on any jab over a ten year timeframe – which means everyone that got jabbed did so on blind faith.
The vaccine is what got it all under control.
A very long history of vaccines shows that adverse effects happen within 2 months, not years later. The COVID vaccine uses either viral vector technology successfully used to fight ebola, or messener mRNA which has been used in cancer treatment for 10+ years. Vaccines do not cause surprise reactions years down the line. Almost all of the ingredients used are found in foods, and our bodies already create mRNA.
It’s not blind faith or gambling with futures at all. It’s being educated.

and yes it is blind faith – no two peoples genetic, physical make up and dna are the same – therefore, anything injected can cause death, serious injury, long term problems and short term problems in one individual, but not in another.
so please, stop making out that these types of things are universally safe, when they aren’t, never have been and never will be.
But surely you’d agree that the evidence very strongly shows vaccines are a lot safer than no vaccine? And that having a vaccine is a lot less risky than no vaccine?
It takes a lot more of the ‘blind faith’ to go unvaccinated.

A friend of mine was working as a nurse in the intensive care ward of Southampton General.
In 2021, once the vaccines had been rolled out, I asked him about the vaccines. He told me that 90% of covid patients on ventilation and all of those who subsequently died were not vaccinated.
Vaccines work by triggering an immune response to something that looks like a pathogen. This means the next time the immune system encounters that same pathogen it is prepared to fight it. That is how vaccines work.
They “suppress symptoms” because they make your immune response more effective. I got covid (fully vaccinated) and felt a bit under the weather for a day or so. An unvaccinated friend spent a week in bed.
and I never allowed myself to be jabbed with that muck and had every variant of covid going, never missed a days work and never had anything more than a sore throat – fyi, I was not subject to lockdown drivel as the job I did was deemed a key worker

So after all the abuse my friend mr justice got, for just trying to point out what could and would happen with this jab. Any person with half brain could see the obvious clue, EXPERIMENTAL.
