Well-known Wootton councillor Daryll Pitcher has been charged with 2 counts of raping an underage girl and 1 of indecent assault, it has been revealed.
The 46-year-old, of Norman Way in Wootton, will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in the morning (Tuesday) charged with indecent assault on a girl and 2 counts of rape of a female under 16.
The alleged child sex offences are said to have occurred historically when Pitcher was a child himself.
The former UKIP councillor currently represents the electoral ward of Wootton Bridge under the political banner of the Vectis Party – of which he is the leader.
Councillor Pitcher has represented Wootton since May 2021 following a previous term between 2013 and 2017.
The Isle of Wight Council has said it would be inappropriate to comment while proceedings are active.
