Fears of a fire on board a Southern Vectis bus have forced the closure of a main route between Newport and Ryde this morning (Tuesday), but the incident has been confirmed as just a coolant leak. 2 pumping appliances from Ryde are currently on scene on Elenors Grove, with the road currently blocked in both directions. Island Echo understands that the incident has seen coolant leak from the engine. All passengers have been safely evacuated and picked up by a passing route 4 bus. Firefighters are using environmental protective equipment to stop the liquid impacting the local ecosystem. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.
