UPDATED: Firefighters are working to extinguish an out of control garden fire in Cowes this evening (Sunday).
1 pumping appliance from the town is in attendance at Ash Grove, where flames have been sparking concern for local residents. The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident at just before 20:00.
The large bonfire is said to contain the contents of a house as left by previous tenants. Unfortunately, the fire has become out of control and attempts by the landlord to dowse the flames with a garden hose have failed.
A hose reel is currently being used to extinguish the fire.
UPDATE @ 20:40 – The fire has been extinguished and firefighters are standing down from the incident.
