Newport’s JD Sports shop has had to unexpectedly close due to a flood – but there are hopes the store could re-open as early as tomorrow.
The popular sportswear shop on the High Street was closed earlier this week when water entered the property and caused damage to the electrics.
Wet floor signs can be seen inside the shop.
A notice on the door reads “due to unforeseen circumstances, the store will not be open until further notice”.
This brief note, lacking any sort of detail, has prompted concerns amongst the local community that the store may be about to become yet another empty premises in the town.
However, Island Echo understands that contractors are working to make the building safe and get the store re-open in time for any last-minute Christmas purchases.
A spokesperson has said:
“We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused and we strive to re-open as soon as possible”.
Anyone who is due to collect a Click and Collect order, or has any other queries, should call 01983 533376.
UPDATE @ 15:51 – JD Sports has now re-opened.

wow that’s a god send. Me clobber is still in reach for Christmas. Can’t go buying smart gear now can we.
Don’t understand why people pay the extortionate prices for a brand name eg Nike , that is only making the hugely rich even richer , last year Phil Night had $60 BILLION, the other share holders also huge amounts. Cheapest item is more than a member of staff earns in an hour. I stick with M&M sports or Sports Direct or better still Supermarket own brands – made in some of same factories in third world, same materials just different brand name and design.
