Contingency firefighters, who are providing fire cover during today’s national FBU strike, are this afternoon (Sunday) pumping water from a house boat in Bembridge.
Just 10 minutes after the strike action started at midday, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a house boat called Day Dawn taking on a considerable amount of water at Embankment Road, Bembridge.
One appliance is currently attending the scene where the non-FBU firefighters are using a portable pump to remove water from the vessel.
The large red and white house boat remains afloat.
UPDATE @ 14:15 – Fire crews have now left the scene, with officials from Bembridge Harbour taking over the pumping operation.
