UPDATED: A Coastguard operation is underway this evening (Tuesday) to rescue a group of youngsters who are thought to have become trapped by the tide at Luccombe.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, Newport Incident Response Team and Bembridge RNLI All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) are all on the scene between Shanklin and Ventnor, alongside Police.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 16:00.
UPDATE @ 17:32 – The incident has been brought to a close with all teams now stood down.
Island Echo understands three young kayakers attempted cliff climbing at Luccombe having kayaked around to the bay, causing concerns for their safety.
The trio have since returned to safety by their own means.
Bembridge RNLI’s ALB has now returned to station.
