UPDATED: Coastguard Rescue Teams are this afternoon (Sunday) working to safely rescue a man who has fallen in a remote location at Blackgang.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Newport Initial Response Team are currently at the scene alongside paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and are working to recover the person, however the tricky location has resulted in the assistance of Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter being requested.
The helicopter from Lee-on-Solent is hovering above the incident as it attempts to winch the casualty. The location of the rescue is proving to be difficult with the helicopter having been on the scene for over 20 minutes.
It is understood the casualty, once safely extracted from the situation, will be airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
Emergency services were alerted around 14:00.
UPDATE @ 15:55 – The casualty has been successfully airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital this afternoon.
The Newport Initial Response Team were redeployed to assist in the landing of the helicopter at the Newport helipad.
