UPDATED: A male mountain biker has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital this evening (Thursday) after he suffered serious injuries whilst riding in Brighstone Forest.
The biker is believed to have suffered head, neck and spinal injuries in the incident, but is understood to have been conscious upon arrival of emergency crews.
Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter from Lee-On-Solent airlifted the casualty from deep within the West Wight forest after he was located by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and The Needles Coastguard Rescue team.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident earlier this evening with Coastguard Teams alerted shortly before 20:00, with the casualty being airlifted within around 30 minutes.
UPDATE @ 11:50 – A 56-year-old from Bembridge remains in hospital today following last night’s incident. No further information has been released regarding the gentleman’s condition.
