Coastguard Rescue 104 has airlifted a woman from Fort Victoria to St Mary’s Hospital this afternoon (Thursday).
At around 14:20 the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service requested the assistance of the Coastguard in evacuating the elderly patient from the remote spot near Yarmouth.
Responding to the request, The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team deployed but it was deemed that the assistance of the rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was needed due to the remote location of the casualty.
The helicopter landed on farmland near Pratlands Copse.
The woman, who slipped on a muddy path injuring her leg, has been successfully airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport where Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team have rendezvoused with Rescue 104.
