A Coastguard Rescue Team from Bembridge and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the revetment between Sandown and Shanklin earlier today (Sunday) to assist a lady with a suspected broken ankle.
The unknown woman fell awkwardly whilst out walking at around 12:30, however fortunately an off-duty Coastguard was on hand at the time of the incident and was able to open up the family beach hut to offer her shelter from the worsening weather.
The crew from Bembridge Coastguard, who were already out on a training exercise with new recruits – one of whom is a paramedic – were able offer assistance until an ambulance crew arrived.
The female, who is from London, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance after initial treatment.
