Emergency services were called this evening (Tuesday) to reports of an injured person on the rocks at inaccessible Steephill Cove.
Initially, HM Coastguard, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service and the Isle of Wight Ambulance responded to the shout but the Fire Service have since been stood down.
Due to the remote location, HM Coastguard have approached the casualty down the steep narrow path at Steephill Cove. However, 2 vehicles from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have had to drive down from Flowers Brook to reach the casualty.
The operation remains in progress.
UPDATE @ 20:47 – HM Coastguard have now successfully extracted the casualty and they have now been conveyed from the scene by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

More idiots poking their nose into places they ought not.
IF people just stayed on the path, sat on benches and read and followed warning signs it would save our emergency services a lot of bother.
Not sure why people are down voting this comment, it is true, why is someone walking over the rocks. Completely unnecessary risk taking behaviour for no appreciable gain or reason. Moron.
Maybe you think people should just stay on their sofas rather than trying to enjoy life. Actually grasping life and feeling alive might involve some risk on occasions. Give it a go rather than moaning.
Don’t expect the emergency services to help you then. If you want to risk your life then fine, but don’t expect them to risk their lives because of your selfish and stupid decisions! If you hurt yourself then get yourself out of it!
I am very sure that people don’t deliberately “risk their lives by making stupid and selfish decisions”. Some might make errors of judgement that lead to rare accidents but we see much more stupid risk taking on the roads every day. If the emergency services stop responding to accidents, they would immediately be out of work. Your plan is obviously that of a twisted, evil lunatic.
As kids we used to prefer climbing on the rocks, walking the rocks like a tightrope artist, exploring rock pools and anything other than just walking on a path or on the beach. Now we have folk of retirement age doing the very same thing and more power to them I say. This Island is for exploring and not just being a drone, so when an accident happens, it is one of the risks we take being adventure junkies lol. There was no danger to the emergency crews and the incident was resolved so fair enough. It seems that hang gliding, climbing, sailing, surfing and racing are all ‘part of our society’ but wandering over some rocks is a heinous crime.
