There’s nothing better than waking up on Christmas Day to a sunny but chilly winters day… but sadly it looks like 2021 is going to be somewhat wet and windy.
The latest predictions from local forecasters IW Met Service suggests that the weather will deteriorate from Thursday onwards, with wind and rain expected for the big day.
It’s not all bad news though as the next 3 evenings look perfect for seeing the Island’s array of Christmas Light displays, as featured on the Light up the Wight map – www.islandecho.co.uk/xmas.
Tonight (Monday) will be fairly cloudy but with occasional breaks in the cloud. Temperature 2-4c with the wind being northeast 8-14mph.
Tomorrow will see a rather cloudy start to the day but brighter spells will develop at times, especially during the afternoon. Later in the day we will start to see some high thin cloud pushing in from the southwest. The temperature will be warmer at 5-6c and as high as 7c in the south and east. Wind will be east-northeast 9-16mph becoming east 8-14mph.
The best day of the week looks to be Wednesday with a fine start to the day with some broken cloud and hazy sunshine. The cloud amounts will increase throughout the day with temperatures peaking at 7-8c. Wind moderate southeasterly.
It’s all change on Thursday with cloud and patchy rain at times, although it will feel mild at 10-12c. Wind moderate southerly becoming fresh southwesterly then westerly later on.
Christmas Eve will be another mild but cloud day with rain at times, especially later in the day. Wind moderate becoming fresh southerly.
The big day itself – Christmas Day – could go either way as the forecaster’s confidence is rather low in terms of exact details, but at present, it looks as though it will turn rather wet and windy on Christmas Day, especially during the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be 9-11c with a fresh to strong south or southeasterly wind.
