UPDATED: The Cowes chain ferry has run aground this afternoon (Friday) resulting in the suspension of the service.
Island Echo readers are reporting that the floating bridge has run aground on the East Cowes side of the River Medina.
A passenger launch is about to be put into place to operate the short distance between East and West Cowes.
UPDATE : 15:25 – Traffic is reported to be heavy both sides of the River with many pedestrians waiting for the shuttle boat service to begin operating.
It is expected the cross-Medina service will remain suspended for several hours until the tide turns at around 23:00.
