A fire within a cell at HMP Isle of Wight prompted a large response from firefighters and Police earlier this evening (Wednesday). It’s understood at least 4 pumping appliances, an aerial ladder platform and the Incident Support Vehicle were mobilised to the Parkhurst site by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service at around 18:35. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary also deployed a number of officers to the Category B prison, which is primarily filled with sex offenders serving long sentences. The situation has been contained and the fire extinguished, with emergency services standing down from the incident at around 20:00.
