UPDATED: A car has come to rest on its side in a road traffic incident at Ashey this morning (Monday).
Exactly 12 hours after a fatal collision just a mile or 2 away on the other side of The Downs, a Mitsubishi 4×4 has overturned on the winding bends leading down from the Brading Downs Road turnoff towards East Ashey Lane.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and ambulance crews are currently en-route to the incident, which occurred at just before 09:15.
Motorists are advised to find an alternative route diverting via Brading Down Road (Bullys Hill).
UPDATE @ 10:05 – Ashey Road has now been closed by Police in both directions as emergency services continue to work at the scene.
Fire crews are dowsing the vehicle with foam due to a large fuel leak.
No one is thought to have been seriously injured in the crash.
UPDATE @ 10:28 – Emergency services are now standing down from the incident. A man in his 30s has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
Island Roads have been called to the scene to clear the fuel spill, as which the road is expected to re-open.
UPDATE @ 11:50 – The road has now re-opened in both directions.
