A hatchback left the carriageway and ended up slumped in a ditch by the roadside in Whitwell last night (Wednesday).
Police were called to the scene on Whitwell Road at around 22:22 after receiving reports that a road traffic collision had taken place.
The incident occurred just before the junction of St Lawrence Shute and Week Lane and saw a blue Vauxhall Corsa leave the carriageway careering straight into a hedge on the opposite side of the road.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that they attended the scene and that no injuries were reported despite the tricky driving conditions.
The vehicle remained in the ditch overnight until it was recovered this afternoon (Thursday).

Speeding again by any chance, no doubt the excuse will be, medical episode, something ran across the road etc, what about, crap driving again.
Or it simply could of just been a no fault accident given the rain we had last night and the fact its a dark country road.
There is always a fault of some sort. Dark country roads and bad weather are normal conditions for November here.
Or it really could be down to stupid driving there’s always an excuse. Some of the driving when out is beyond compression. People really don’t care who they put in danger with their stupid so called driving most ought to take their test again . To soft in this country get away with anything.A persons life is just not important to some people
Drive according to the conditions. Rain and dark are no excuse and the fault then lies with the driver.
Rubbish. I’ve driven that route for many years in every type of weather. A very easy piece of road to drive on, only driver error ie speed causes this. Standard of driving is appalling.
Drive to the conditions then its quite simple really.
But you weren’t there were you is the point I was trying to make. I Hope this helps
No i wasnt but have dealt with this sort of thing 100’s of times, poor conditions, time of year with leaves on the ground, driving to fast for the conditions, as i said before its quite simple really.
Your a bigoted judgement prat .quite simple really.
Idiot just like your comments
The statement you should be aware of ” is drive to the conditions”any a time i have experienced an idiot speeding in bad weather expecting me, on a motorcycle, to have the same stoppin power as a car, two wheels don’t allow this. So once again i will say”Drive to the conditions “
If you are aware, cars actually have headlights to enable the driver to have better visibility in the dark. Most modern cars have automatic headlights so no excuse there. There is no such thing as a no fault accident.
Well not really you drive to the conditions don’t you it’s just bad driving
have you lot on that island ever had driving lessons i know your all inbreeds. but its every day
You are absolutely correct on one point, it is just about every day; I see you throw an insult with reference to ” inbreeds”, however your ability seems rather limited with your obvious lack of attendance at school with reference to your punctuation throughout.
If you wish to insult, at least try to show you actually have the intelligence to do so without actually looking thick.
There really is no need for that !! It’s personal and not needed . Bullying actually.
Really, the punctuation for one is awful, secondly reference to ” inbreeds, ” you find that acceptable, do you? You make no reference to that.
“Inbreeds” is a deliberate act intended to offend and insult the population of this Island, made by an individual with no respect who had no cause to make that comment and received exactly what he required in my response.
I took my 2 driving lessons with my mum’s daughter, I was so excited on passing my driving test that I married her !
Did you even go to school?
Pedant. There is too much outcross from the mainland for any inbreeds.
Fancy meating u here x
Another excellent IW driver, probably a woman with a car like that thing…
The roads are quite wet and people don’t realise with the leaves on the road too!
Who are you calling inbreds?
You illiterate fool?
Just plain old BAD DRIVING… don’t blame the rain, the leaves or the road… it is only the fault of whomever was driving. Undue care and attention… One should know that the roads are wet when it rains… leaves on the ground mainly in Autumn… wind from blustery weather.. all these are called ROAD CONDITIONS…. Bad drivers always try to blame something or someone else…
Don’t worry another illiterate commenter will be along soon! Lol.
Another ignorant I’ll informed bigot will be along soon as well.
Why are you complaining then?…are you special needs?…Lol.
What the concern is here is not the fact that the idiot can’t drive it’s the fact any one of us could of been innocently caught up in this situation where the idiot caused us serious injury or death
.with the amount of idiots on the road it’s only a matter of time before my concerns become reality
