UPDATED: A car has collided with a set of traffic lights on a main road on the outskirts of Newport this afternoon.
Emergency services have been called to the A3020 Cowes Road with the junction of Stag Lane following reports of a Silver VW Polo having collided with the permanent traffic lights.
Island Echo understands an elderly female has escaped injury after her vehicle ended up on its side following the collision. No other vehicles are believed to be involved.
Police and ambulances crews are in attendance alongside the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, who were deployed to carry out scene safety.
Southern Vectis are advising customers that their Route 1 service is diverting via Noke Common and Oxford Street until further notice.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as long delays are likely due to a partial road block.
UPDATE @ 17:55 – The vehicle has now been recovered from the scene by nearby Stag Lane Motors and traffic is beginning to resume to a normal rush hour pace.
