A 3-series BMW has burst into flames in Freshwater tonight (Wednesday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are responding to the incident on Queen’s Road in the town – a one-way street that joins School Green Road.
1 appliance from the nearby retained fire station has been mobilised to the scene, with the single crew currently working to extinguish the blaze. They were made aware of the incident at around 22:20.
It appears the fire has started either inside the cabin or to the rear of the vehicle as opposed to the engine bay, which is more commonly the case. It is unclear at this time if there are any suspicious circumstances to the fire.
The vehicle appears to have been parked or has stopped on double yellow lines.
UPDATE @ 22:50 – Southern Vectis say that they are currently unable to serve between Pixley Hill and Tennyson Road. Buses will divert along Hill Lane, Colwell, The Avenue and Heathfield Road.
UPDATED @ 23:55 – The fire is now out and Freshwater’s fire appliance has returned to station.
2 Breathing Apparatus (BA) and 2 hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire. Additionally, a safety hose was used to protect the adjacent building from any damage.
Firefighters have thanked the local pub for their hospitality.
The video below shows the moment firefighters started to dowse the flames.
