32-year-old Jordan Canning has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for engaging in penetrative sexual activity with an underage girl.
It was in March last year that Canning, of Star Street in Ryde, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court charged with 4 counts of being an offender 18 or over engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15.
The offences took place in May 2023 and involved numerous acts of penetration against his victim.
Canning denied the serious charges against him, and the case was sent up to the Isle of Wight Crown Court for trial, listed for October 2024.
It was over a year later, in May of this year, that the 32-year-old was found guilty by a jury on 3 of the 4 charges, following a 5-day trial.
Appearing via video link before Mr Recorder Malcolm Gibney sitting at Portsmouth Crown Court this morning (Friday), Jordan Canning was handed a 5-year prison sentence.
He was also made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order.
Is that all? For statutory rape?
So many people whining about minor theft, driving offences and personal drug use, squealing ‘lock them up!’
THIS is just one reason why prisons are overloaded to the point that serious crime against the person, not property, a) don’t carry a harsh enough sentence, and b) get minimised by comparison.
You’re getting outraged in totally the wrong direction, and public opinion is forcing the police and justice system to deliver in also the wrong direction.
Completely Right! Sexual perpetrators are literally so prolific. The general public are concerned about these light sentences, when a motoring or theft act can carry much less. We are very concerned and getting tired of this. They so we aren’t every as far away as 2m from a rat ever. Abusers of children, our young people, same.
