UPDATED: A Volkswagen campervan has collided with a property on a narrow stretch of road in Carisbrooke this afternoon (Tuesday).
Police were called to the scene on the B3401 Calbourne Road at its junction with the High Street shortly after 15:20 following reports of a vehicle colliding with the front of a house lining the carriageway near to The Waverley Pub.
Damage has been sustained to the ground floor of the building and has resulted in the closure of the road in both directions. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
A second property has also received some damage, according to Hampshire Constabulary.
It is understood the vehicle crossed to the other side of the road before mounting the pavement and embedding into the front of the terraced home. It is believed the driver pressed the accelerator rather than the brake.
No one has been seriously injured in the collision.
Isle of Wight Council building inspectors have been called to the scene to assess the damage caused to the property’s structure.
