There are major changes to bus services in Ryde from today (Tuesday) until the Spring, as work gets underway to redevelop Ryde Bus Station.
As part of the £10million investment in the Esplanade, bus stands have been moved from the bus station to further East along the seafront.
Those looking to catch a bus out of Ryde – in any direction – will now have to walk towards Ryde Castle, with bus stands located on both sides of the road. The travel shop remains open as usual though.
The temporary changes, which will last around 6 months, have resulted in the loss of 9 parking spaces on the Southern side of the Esplanade.
Once the scheme is completed in Spring 2023, Ryde Bus Station will be completely transformed. Buses will be able to exit straight up George Street and there will be a new entrance way to Ryde Pier. There are also plans to transform the Ryde Esplanade Train Station, although that will be more of a cosmetic makeover than a complete redevelopment.

no compensation offered to the residents of the esplanade for the endless noise of construction work being undertaken, that they didn’t ask for. Perhaps phil jordan should be made to live on the sea front until the work is completed
Do you know the definition of nimby?
do you know what the phrase “enforced stress, disruption and anxiety due to noise” means
as the residents didn’t ask, they should be compensated – not too difficult is it.
You will literally be compensated by the increase on your property price.
And we get to the real reason this work is being done. Public money being spent to improve a private business.
I think whatever happens will be an improvement on whats there, its such a bad first impression for visitors to the island.
Exactly, the esplanade has looked run down for years, it’s needed a refresh.
A new bus station won’t make any difference. I still need a bank loan to get on a bus!
ridiculous. get a key card. 4 quid for unlimited travel per day
6 months! How long? 6 months. For what? If they actually did a day’s work, or even a week’s work with sufficient manpower how long then? A lot less. Too much time talking, on mobiles etc, rather than getting on with the job. Typical IOW.
Because whilst a Hole or any building work is being carried out the water company the electric company and the gas company have to be there in case there are any damages to the pipes or lines. Then that engineer from the relevant company assesses any complications and a team of engineers is called out to assist them. There’s an order in which things HAVE to be done.
