A crash between a double decker bus and a car has seen Police close Fitzroy Street in Sandown this afternoon (Sunday). A white Ford B-Max appears to have failed to give way at the junction of Leed Street and Fitzroy Street, which has resulted in a Southern Vectis Route 2 bus crashing into the side of the car. The incident on the notorious crossroads junction occurred at around 13:15, with the 13:08 Route 2 bus from Sandown to Ryde withdrawn. Recovery of the vehicles is being arranged and the road is expected to reopen in due course. The junction has seen a number of almost identical crashes over the years involving buses and even a Police van. UPDATE @ 15:29 – Fitzroy Street has now reopened to all traffic.
