EMERGENCY CLOSURE

BURST WATER MAIN LEADS TO EMERGENCY CLOSURE OF NEWPORT HIGH STREET

An emergency closure is set to be put in place on Newport High Street this evening (Monday) as a result of a burst water main.

The recently resurfaced road is set to be dug up at a point between Quay Street and Coppins Bridge to allow Southern Water contractors to repair a water main that has failed.

Traffic management crews will not physically close the road until 20:00 tonight (Monday 29th April) in order to reduce disruption to the network. It is hoped that the repair work will be completed and the road re-opened by tomorrow morning, but the road could remain closed for up to 5 days.

Motorists will be diverted via St James’ Street, Hunnycross Way and Medina Way to Coppins Bridge although it is thought that Holyrood Street and Quay Street will remain open for local traffic (one way – northbound).
