Reports of smoke issuing from a flat have led to firefighters from 2 stations responding to central Ryde tonight (Monday) – with a main road closed.
It was just before 21:40 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service received a 999 call reporting the presence of smoke in a flat on Argyll Street, near the junction with West Street
Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet have entered the address and have located burnt cooking, it has been confirmed.
2 appliances from Ryde remain on scene, with an appliance from Newport stood down en-route.
Police are also in attendance.
Argyll Street is closed in both directions with all traffic being diverted locally. HGVs are diverting via Queens Road.
