
The Shanklin & Sandown Men’s Club Championship, which was held at the weekend, saw a total of 119 players take part.
The format was 18 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday with trophies for best 18 holes (handicap), Saturday and Sunday, plus best 36 hole totals, scratch, handicap and scratch over 55’s.
The Peter Hammond Cup (18 holes handicap) was played for on Saturday and was won by Ian Miller with a nett 65. On Sunday, the Melville Hall Cup (18 holes handicap) was won by Pat Cavaliero with a nett 63.
After the first round, players teed off in reverse score order, with the best scoring players starting last. There were 15 players within 7 shots of the leader, Joseph Green, who shot 68 in the first round. After another fantastic day’s golf on Sunday Joseph Green was crowned the Club Champion, with scores of 68 + 72, total 140. The runner up was Nat Riddett, with scores of 68 + 73, total 141.
The Roger Matthews Salver (36 holes handicap) was won by Ian Miller with a nett score of 134 nett. The runner up was Joseph Green, with a nett score of 136.
The Hill Quaich (36 hole scratch over 55’s), was won by Gary Meszynski with a scratch score of 150.
