Esme Walters has been named Young Volunteer of the Year for the Wessex Region at the annual British Rowing awards.
The accolade sees the Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club Vice-Captain recognised following an outstanding year in which she has helped transform daily operations at the club while acting as the driving force behind a number of successful community initiatives.
Her contribution has extended well beyond the clubhouse doors. Across the Wessex region, Esme has taken a leading role in social media and Instagram for the Wessex Junior Community, helping to raise the profile of junior rowing and strengthen engagement between clubs.
She has also dedicated countless hours of administrative and technical support to the Wessex Junior Inter-Regionals performance programme, playing a key part in preparations for the upcoming championships in Nottingham.
Alongside her volunteer commitments, Esme continues to contribute on the water — coaching and coxing crews — and was part of the successful team that claimed the Hants & Dorset Ladies Junior Pairs Championship.
Her award recognises not only her commitment to her home club, but also her wider impact on junior rowing across the Wessex region.
