A busy and eventful fortnight at Westridge Golf Club saw multiple titles decided, juniors shine, and testing weather conditions challenge players across a packed competition schedule.
In the final of the reimagined Scratch Knock-out for the Smith and Williamson Trophy, it was a professional versus member showdown between Pro Steve Davis and Co-Club Captain Zane Cohen. Played in blustery and drizzly conditions, both players battled the weather, but it was Davis’ precision short game that made the difference. Despite a determined fightback from Cohen, Steve Davis’ consistency around the greens secured him the title.
The Whittaker Bowl — the Ladies’ summer season order of merit — concluded in dramatic fashion, with Storm Amy bringing play to a halt. The strong morning winds meant that Louise Webb clinched the title without taking a shot, capping off an excellent season which also saw her win the Ladies’ Handicap Championship and contribute to the team’s fine run of results.

Westridge’s focus on nurturing young talent was also highlighted in the Junior Championship. Despite difficult windy conditions, it was Alfie Boxall who shone with a gross 71 to claim the Scratch title ahead of Oliver Slade (88) and Riley Rich (91). In the Handicap section, Jacob Sanyal triumphed with a 63 net, followed by Boxall (66 net) and Finley Reeve (71 net).

The Battle of the Sexes on Saturday 12th October offered light-hearted competition and camaraderie in a Better Ball match play format. While the Ladies looked poised for victory, it was once again the Men who prevailed — thanks in part to a standout front-nine performance by junior player Oliver Slade.
Closing the fortnight was the Autumn Shield Texas Scramble, which drew 42 members in good conditions. Riding the momentum of his Junior Championship win, Alfie Boxall teamed up with Peter Dixcey and Malcolm Prouten to take the title on 51 net. They narrowly edged out Glen Winnard, Oliver Slade, and Brian Skelley (52 net), with Martyn Phillips, Rod Little, and Tom Moriarty a further shot behind on countback (53 net).
